A Russian Hotel with a European History

Ever since the 18^th century major European cities have boasted luxurious hotels satisfying the tastes of the most refined travellers. Together with the Astoria, the Grand Hotel Europe and the Atlantic, the Ambassador hotels were a favourite stopping point for noble travellers, ranking alongside the finest hotels and famed since the early 20^th century for hosting glittering events of high society life.

To this day in Europe the name Ambassador is associated with care for traditions, love of art and first-class service. Today, in spite of apparent differences between the Ambassador hotels, each adheres to the same high ideals established by the Kranz family who opened the first hotel in Austria.

A Link through the Ages

Today the hotel is a unique complex combining a modern building with an architectural gem from the 19^th century. Despite the stylistic differences of the hotel’s facades, the interiors are all in the classical style. An atrium occupies the central part of the complex. The public rooms of the hotel were designed by renowned architect Аndrei Svistunov, who created the interiors of palaces for the nobility in 19^th century St Petersburg. In the Ambassador hotel the great architect, following the traditions of the Academy of Arts, opted for Russian interiors and gave a contemporary feel to a well-known classic. The hotel’s public rooms house a huge variety of charming lamps, vases, paintings and stucco moulding that embody the charm and beauty of the Empire style.
